
Polaris Bank, a dynamic financial institution in Nigeria on Thursday held its 10th annual Journalists’ Seminar, aimed at improving the outputs of news reporting.
The seminar, themed “Empowering Journalists in the Digital Age: Storytelling, Tools, and Transmission,” aimed to equip media practitioners with the latest skills and technologies to improve their reportage.
108scoop.com reports that by providing journalists with the latest tools and technologies, the bank hopes to enhance the quality of news reporting and promote innovation and excellence in the media industry.
The seminar featured expert facilitators, including Mr. Taiwo Obe, Director of Journalism Clinic, and Mr. Abayomi Adisa, a senior journalist with the BBC.
They shared their expertise on various topics, including integrating AI tools into modern media practices; enhancing innovation and excellence in journalism; Data journalism and fact-checking; multimedia storytelling and the responsible use of AI in the newsroom.
In his welcoming address, Mr. Rasheed Bolarinwa, Group Head of Brand Management and Corporate Communication at Polaris Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to media capacity building.
He noted that the bank has been investing in this initiative for over 10 years, training more than 5,000 journalists in various locations across the country.
The seminar was designed to be a hybrid event, accommodating both physical and virtual participants.
The seminar is part of Polaris Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which aim to empower journalists with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the evolving media landscape.
Some participants who spoke to 108scoop.com commended the management of the bank for the annual training, describing it as “well-deserved”.
They urged other financial institutions in the country to emulate the bank’s capacity training for journalists.
