Residents and businesses in Aba now face electricity disruption after emergency turbine maintenance cut power generation in the commercial city.
Aba Power Explains Supply Drop
Aba Power Limited confirmed the temporary shortage in an official notice to customers. The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by reduced supply in some parts of Aba.
According to the statement, Geometric Power Aba Limited started emergency turbine maintenance at its plant. Consequently, the work forced a temporary shutdown of turbine operations and reduced electricity generation.
However, the company assured customers that engineers would restore normal supply once repairs end and full generation returns.

Businesses Feel Pressure in Aba
Meanwhile, the outage has raised concern among traders, residents and business owners in Aba, one of the biggest commercial centres in South East Nigeria.
Many small businesses in Aba depend on steady electricity to run shops, cold rooms, salons and production lines. Consequently, any drop in supply often pushes operators to spend more on diesel and petrol generators.
Furthermore, Aba Power said it remains committed to reliable electricity service despite the setback. Management also appealed to customers for patience and understanding during the maintenance period.
Nigeria Power Sector Still Under Pressure
In response, industry watchers said quick completion of the turbine repairs will help stabilise supply in Aba.
However, the development again reflects wider problems in Nigeria’s power sector, where maintenance delays, weak infrastructure and generation shortfalls still affect supply across many cities.
