The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA-A) has called for greater stakeholder support to expand its impact on Nigeria’s clean-energy transition.

Mr Samuel Nwosu, Publicity Secretary of the alliance, made the call while presenting the three-year activity report of the current executive at its Annual General Meeting.

Nwosu said the executive, elected on July 24, 2023, had implemented several initiatives aimed at strengthening renewable energy, energy efficiency, investment mobilisation and capacity development.

He said the alliance had expanded its membership from about five associations at inception to seven, while deepening collaboration among industry stakeholders.

According to him, the alliance also established 11 committees to drive programmes covering innovation, technical assistance, business development, energy efficiency, finance, entrepreneurship and clean-energy technologies.

He said other committees focused on natural gas, biogas and hydrogen, electricity legislation, mobility, carbon markets, women, youth and persons with special needs.

Nwosu said the alliance developed policy statements, standard operating procedures and a financial manual to strengthen its institutional framework.
He said the documents were awaiting ratification by the General Assembly.

The publicity secretary said the alliance had established partnerships with development organisations and institutions to promote project development, investment mobilisation and capacity building.

He said REEEA-A participated in strategic discussions at the World Economic Forum on mobilising investment for clean energy in Nigeria.

Nwosu said it also engaged the National Action Committee on AfCFTA on opportunities in gas, sustainability and the energy sector.

He added that the alliance held discussions with electricity-sector institutions on wind energy and other renewable-energy opportunities.

According to him, the alliance organised conferences, stakeholder engagements and capacity-development programmes to strengthen understanding of Nigeria’s clean-energy transition.

He said one major initiative focused on developing the clean-energy capital market and increasing private-sector participation in renewable-energy financing.

Nwosu said the programme examined incentives, policy and regulatory barriers, while seeking to develop a strategic framework for clean-energy capital-market penetration.

He said the alliance also collaborated with the European Union on initiatives supporting women and persons with disabilities.

The publicity secretary said stakeholder engagements were organised across the country to examine the implementation and implications of the Electricity Act.

He said the engagements provided stakeholders with a better understanding of opportunities and challenges created by the legislation.

Nwosu said the alliance would continue to engage policymakers and other stakeholders on reforms needed to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity market and energy-transition framework.

He said REEEA-A had also collaborated with relevant institutions on capacity building, including programmes involving staff of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

Nwosu appealed to stakeholders, development partners and renewable-energy organisations to support the alliance and its newly inaugurated governing council.

“If you are not a member of the alliance, please join and become one of the associations,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to members, partners and development organisations for their support and contributions to the alliance’s activities.

Nwosu reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, investment, capacity development and sustainable energy access in Nigeria.
