SEC passes vote of confidence on NUJ Lagos executive members

The State Executive Council (SEC) of Lagos NUJ comprising Chairmen and Secretaries of Chapels has passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Members of NUJ Lagos Council, ably led by Mr Adeleye Ajayi.

The unanimous decision was upheld during the SEC meeting which held at the NUJ Secretariat on Friday in Lagos.

SEC Members commended the laudable and giant strides of the Executive Members which included but not limited to completion of the NUJ Secretariat; the Somolu Building (Guest House) which is presently undergoing construction; Training of members, and for offsetting debts incurred by the immediate past adminstration.

SEC members highlighted how the Union under Adeleye Ajayi took no fewer than 120 Journalists to the 7th National Delegates Conference in Umuahia, Abia State in 2021, amongst others.

In his reaction, Ajayi appreciated SEC Members for the confidence reposed in his leadership and Executive Members.

” I want to say a big thank you to SEC members for the accolades and encomium.

“We may not have been where we ought to be at the moment but we’ll continue to do everything within our reach to make Lagos Council great”.He affirmed.

Ajayi urged SEC members to ensure that the impact of the Union is felt at the chapel level.

The Chairman advised members without journalism background, to enroll in any institution so as to get a minimum qualification of Diploma in Journalism as enshrined by the NUJ Constitution.

He further urged Chapels to brace up as the Council Election would be coming up later in the year.

“All chapels are to take the issue of Checkoff dues and Practising fee seriously, so that no one will be deprived from voting” he appealed.

Ajayi pledged the commitment of the Council to look into the issue of members who did not get their ID cards having made payment under the last administration.

Ajayi noted that the Union is taking the issue of funds trapped in the failed Pen Jewel Estate Project seriously in order to refund subscribers.

SEC Members expressed high satisfaction as peace had completely returned to Lagos Council.
