Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the viral incident involving Comfort Emmanson, a passenger who physically assaulted an Ibom Air crew member during a flight from Uyo to Lagos.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Sani said that he had watched the video showing Emmanson slapping the air hostess and attacking other crew members. Despite the severity of the act, he suggested that the passenger should be forgiven.

His comment comes after Ibom Airlines Limited announced a lifetime ban on Emmanson for her actions, which included refusing to switch off her phone before take-off, engaging in verbal abuse, and physically assaulting crew members upon arrival in Lagos.

The airline also alleged that she attempted to remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, describing the act as an intention to damage and possibly ground the aircraft. Emmanson was later restrained and handed over to the Nigerian Police.

Sani’s call for forgiveness has generated mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians agreed, urging for leniency and possible rehabilitation, others maintained that her behavior endangered lives on board and warranted strict punishment as a deterrent.

The incident has since sparked discussions on passenger conduct, aviation safety, and the balance between justice and mercy in handling such cases.
