[TITLE: Kogi Police Confirm Abduction of 15 NYSC Members]

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by suspected armed bandits along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.

Corps members attacked on way to Abuja

The corps members were travelling from the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to Abuja when armed assailants intercepted them.

Meanwhile, Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to ARISE News on Friday. She said security operatives had launched efforts to rescue the abducted corps members and other victims.

According to Afusat, the attack occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Armed hoodlums emerged from the bush around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction.

Attackers block two buses

The assailants blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions and abducted some passengers. However, other passengers escaped into the surrounding bush.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer, Ofu, led a joint security team to the scene after receiving a distress call. The team recovered two abandoned vehicles, a Peace Mass Transit white Hummer bus and a yellow 18-seater bus.

The police said the operation focused on locating the abducted victims and securing the area.

Security operation launched

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of corps members travelling between orientation camps and their destinations.

Furthermore, the NYSC provides official information and emergency contacts for corps members through its website, including its 24/7 Distress Call Centre.
