Power supply in and around Abia State will be boosted on Friday, Feb. 24  when President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate a private power generation plant in the state.

The power plant is being built by Geometrics Power Limited, an indigenous private power solutions provider owned by Prof. Bart Nnaji, a former Minister of Science and Technology.

The plant, to be inaugurated, is the first phase of a 1000mw capacity power plant being built strategically in Aba, an industrial city in Abia State, South East of Nigeria.

Geometric Power Limited has already built a 22 mw capacity power plant in Abuja.

Bart Nnaji said: “The generation of electricity from the Geometric Power plant will be a game changer in the socioeconomic development of not just Aba city, but nine out of the 17 local government areas in Abia State serviced by Aba Power, a member of Geometric group.

“We have completed building four brand new power substations and refurbishing three substations inherited from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), in addition to providing thousands of kilometres of cables and wires, as well as world-class tubular poles available in only highly industrialised cities such as Tokyo in Japan and San Francisco in California.”

Okey Kanu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, said the inauguration of the plant would be a dream come through for both Geometrics and Abia State Government.

“The State Government has worked assiduously behind the scenes to ensure that the project is realized because when that plant comes on stream, it will benefit our people,” he said.

Kanu said the project underscored the commitment of the state government’s commitment to boosting the economic fortunes of the state through private sector investment in infrastructure.
