Town unions endorse APC candidates in Ebonyi for 2027 elections

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Town Union Presidents from communities in Ebonyi North Senatorial District have endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Ebonyi from President Bola Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru, Sen..Onyekachi Nwebonyi among others.

The endorsement was made during their gathering at Amagu, Abakaliki Local Governentl Area (LGA) which is the ancestral community of Izhi speaking people of Ebonyi State.

The State President of the Association of Town Union Presidents, Chief Augustine Akpu said the decision followed consultations among the union leaders in Ebonyi north district.

Akpu, who is the President General of Amagu autonomous communuty, said the endorsement covered all APC candidates from the president to members of the state House of Assembly.

“The leaders considered the performances of the president, governor and the senator representing the district in arriving at their decision.

“I commend Governor Nwifuru for his infrastructural development, youth empowerment initiatives and scholarship awards to Ebonyi indigenes.

“Senator Nwebonyi has distinguished himself through constituency projects and effective representation at the National Assembly.”

He, however, noted that some elected representatives have not met the expectations of their constituents, urging them to improve their performance if re-elected.

“We expect more empowerment programmes for youths, scholarships for our children and greater attention to the people’s welfare.

“We urge politicians who were not successful in their political ambitions to remain patient and continue supporting peace and development in the state.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Association, Deacon Elijah Ituma emphasised the importance of town union leaders in grassroots administration and conflict resolution.

Ituma, a Retired Permanent Secretary and President-General of Okposi Ehuku community in Ohaukwu LGA, said town union presidents remained critical stakeholders in maintaining peace and stability at the communities.

“We urge political office holders and government officials to engage grassroots leaders more effectively in governance and development initiatives.”

Tthe President-General of Alioma community in Ohaukwu LGA, Monday Eze, called for greater involvement of town union presidents in the administration of the state.

“Government programmes and policies would achieve greater success if community leaders were actively engaged in their implementation.

“Town union presidents have remained largely sidelined despite their strategic position as grassroots mobilisers.

“We appeal to the state government to integrate us into governance structures beyond election periods,”.

The President-General of Mbeke-Ishieke autonomous community in Ebonyi LGA, Prince Sunday Ogboso, expressed support for president Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru and Senator Nwebonyi.for their splendid performances in office.
