The Umuana Ndume in Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, is mourning the loss of its most distinguished organist, Late Godwin Ejikeme Nwachukwu, popularly known as `Dee Gogo’, who recently went home to eternal rest. Throughout his life, he was celebrated not only for his remarkable talent on the organ but also for his unwavering commitment to uplifting the spiritual and cultural life of the people.

His melodies, often played during church services and other gatherings, became a source of inspiration and solace for many. He was a revered figure whose dedication to his craft and humility touched the hearts of all who knew him.

His music transcended mere entertainment; it was a reflection of his devotion, faith, and love for his people.

As the community grieves this great loss, they also honour his legacy, which is an enduring testament to his passion, skill, and service. His contributions will continue to resonate in the hearts of generations to come, and his memory will be treasured forever.

Reflecting on the loss, Pastor Innocent Nwachukwu described him as a man of peace and few words.

“You have gone the way of all mortals – a man of peace and of few words.

“A lover of Christian music and a music minister. The last time I met you with my elder brother over the death of Kenneth, you spoke peacefully to us, and we didn’t waste time in accepting your wise decision.

“I am convinced you are now resting in the Lord. Rest on till the resurrection morning.’’

Dr. Victor Nwachukwu has this to say: “My uncle, the Late Godwin Ejikeme Nwachukwu, was an articulate, optimistic and smart gentleman. Always ready with motivational words to give, and always with zest to encourage, and have a good chat.

An elder with simplicity and easy to meet with at any time. We will miss you Dee Gogo. Rest in peace.

Late Nwachukwu was born into the family of Nwachukwu and began his early career as a school teacher in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after completing his Standard 6 educational pursuit.

His quest for success helped him to secure a job with the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike (NRCRI), and he served in several programmes, including Cassava and Yam, among others.

During his lifetime, Nwachukwu was a devoted Christian, a Choir master and Diocesan Music director for many years, which gained him several awards both at the diocesan level and Parish. He is a strong supporter of Abia Warriors Football Club, Umuahia, and also a member of the Abia State Hunters Association.

The funeral service for the deceased has been scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026, by officiating ministers of St Thomas Anglican Church, Umuana Ndume Ibeku North Archdiocese Headquarters, in conjunction with the Diocese of Umuahia Anglican Communion

May his soul find peace, and may his family and loved ones find comfort during this difficult time. Rest in perfect peace, esteemed organist, your legacy lives on.
