Buhari’s body to arrive on Tuesday, new burial date announced

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has formally announced the burial arrangements for Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away yesterday in a hospital in London.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Katsina, Governor Radda revealed that, following consultations with the late President’s family and close associates in London, it has been agreed that the remains of the former leader will arrive Katsina tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by 12 noon.

He further disclosed that the burial will take place in Daura, the hometown of the late President, by 2:00 p.m. on the same day.

Governor Radda expressed deep condolences on behalf of himself, the Government, and the people of Katsina State, to the family of the late President and to all Nigerians mourning the loss of a national icon.

“We pray Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” the Governor said.

“We also condole His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the passing of his predecessor. May Allah give us the strength to bear this great loss.”

The Government of Katsina State is coordinating with federal authorities and the family to ensure a befitting and dignified farewell for the late elder statesman.

In a similar development, the government of Katsina State has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, as a public holiday to mourn the passing of a former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

The public holiday was approved by the governor of the state, Dikko Radda, a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari has said.

According to Faskari, the work-free day will enable the state and its residents to honour the late former president.

President Muhammadu Buhari a one-time military head of state and two-time civilian President died on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

He died in a private hospital in London at the age of 82.

Faskari said the public holiday will also allow residents of Katsina, especially those from Daura, Buhari’s hometown to join the rest of the country in mourning the loss of the late former president.

He also described Buhari as a great leader who embodied the attributes of a true democrat and patriotic Nigerian.

Faskari prayed for the repose of the soul of the late former president while asking the Almighty Allah to reward his good deeds with Jannatul Firdaus.

“Details regarding the burial arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course,” Faskari said.
