Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has withdrawn from the ongoing APC primaries after alleging that some individuals blocked his supporters from entering the polling venue.

Elliot Alleges Intimidation at Polling Venue

The lawmaker representing Surulere I in the Lagos State House of Assembly announced his withdrawal in a video that circulated on social media on Wednesday.

However, Elliot claimed that some unnamed persons intimidated his camp and stopped his supporters from gaining access to the venue.

“My name is Desmond Elliot. In all zones, they have been intimidating and stopping us. I want to officially announce my withdrawal from this particular race. This is my ward,” he said.

Furthermore, he said many of his supporters remained outside the venue despite their presence at the location.

“If you go outside, those are my people outside, and they have not been allowed. So I am officially announcing my withdrawal from this race. Good luck, thank you,” he added.

Supporters Stage Peaceful Protest

Meanwhile, Elliot said he made repeated appeals to electoral officers to allow his supporters into the polling area.

However, he said the officials ignored his requests.

Consequently, some of his supporters staged a peaceful protest shortly after his announcement. They later left the venue with the Surulere I lawmaker.

In response, the development adds fresh attention to the ongoing APC primary process as political activities continue ahead of future elections.
