Orodata Science, in partnership with the Africa Data Hub (ADH), has unveiled the Pan-African Newsroom AI Governance Network, a new initiative aimed at strengthening ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption across African newsrooms.
The initiative seeks to co-create a continent-wide AI Governance Framework that will promote responsible AI use, safeguard editorial independence and reinforce public trust in media systems.
It also aligns with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) principle of “Leave No One Behind.”
According to the organisers, the rapid integration of AI tools in journalism has created opportunities for efficiency and innovation, but also raises ethical, operational and accountability concerns.
The Network is expected to address these concerns by establishing clear guidelines for responsible AI use in editorial workflows, training newsroom teams on ethical AI practices and creating a collaborative governance structure that reflects diverse stakeholder perspectives.
Orodata Science said the initiative invites AI experts, journalists, media leaders and media organisations across the continent to participate in shaping the framework.
Interested contributors can scan the QR code on the campaign flyer to share insights and recommendations.
A virtual workshop for the development of the AI Governance Framework is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Participants will be recognised in the published framework, gain the opportunity to help shape ethical AI standards for African media, and receive access to future reviews and capacity-building programmes.
