
Abakaliki, Nigeria – Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi has identified women as ambassadors of change in driving social and economic progress in the world.
Nwifuru noted that women are actively challenging existing norms, breaking barriers, and fostering a more equitable and sustainable world as agents who inspire change.
The governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Patricia Obila, made this known on Saturday, at the grand finale of the 2025 Ebonyi Women’s August Meeting with the theme: “Women who Inspire change”.
He expressed satisfaction towards Ebonyi women’s contributions to and solidarity with his administration and assured them of more inclusiveness in governance.
In her remarks, wife of the governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, charged women to use their potentials to inspire change.
According to her, change is not only to hold public office and lead in politics but to teach a child, mentor fellow woman, build a family rooted in values to contribute to community growth.
She added that lending a helping hand to the vulnerable was also part of the change expected.
“Change is the responsibility of every one in raising Godly and disciplined children, inspire change by practicing honesty and excellence, communities, standing against violence and injustice, among others.
“Let us also remember that empowering one another is key.
“No woman should pull another down, instead you should create a sisterhood of support, mentorship and collective growth,” Mrs Nwifuru said.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Felicia Nwamkpuma, stated that the conference was more than a reunion of women
Nwamkpuma described the conference as a great platform for community development, conflict resolution, chatting for better future of home and the society.
She commended the governor and his wife for their various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women in the state.
The senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Mr Onyekachi Nwebonyi, lauded the meeting for the opportunity to empower, inspire and provide opportunities for networking and personal growth of women in the state.
Nwebonyi commended Gov. Nwifuru for believing that women are at the heart of building the state and nation.
Mrs Eunice Egwu and Mrs Josephine Elechi, Wives of Former Governors of the state, also charged women to take advantage of teachings and lessons from the women conference for development.
The event featured disbursement of wheelchairs to 10 persons with disability, and scholarship to a beneficiary, Oluebube Uzochi.
The programme also featured lectures on managing hygiene, building financial and managing wealth among other teachings by some resources persons.
