Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has admonished corps members that they owe Nigeria the debt to serve the country selflessly and responsibly.
Fubara stated this at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai LGA while declaring closed, the 2026 Batch C stream I orientation course for corps members deployed to Rivers State.
The governor represented by the Permanent Secretary Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, reminded the corps members of the absolute necessity to integrate seamlessly with their host community.
“This is through respect to their culture and traditions, being role models and bringing solution to problems rather than creating it.
“You should take the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship post-camp training seriously, to equip yourselves with the capacity to create wealth and become employers of labour.”
The Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe in his address, commended the corps members for their resilience and doggedness throughout the three -week training.
Oleghe said the corps members have developed the culture of participation in nation-building and activated team spirit by putting Nigeria first in all they do.
“I deeply appreciated Governor Fubara for the approval and immediate implementation of payment of new state allowance to corps members who serve outside Obio-Akpor and Phalga LGAs.
“The corps members.would receive N35, 000 while Obio-Akpor and Phalga based corps members would receive N20, 000.
“The initiative is to curb the massive and unwarranted lobby by parents and guardians for their wards to be posted to the urban areas.”
Oleghe concluded by thanking security agencies and stakeholders for their support towards the success of the camping exercise.
“I charge you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC in your places of primary assignment.
A total of 3, 280 Corps Members comprising 1,380 males and 1,900 females successfully completed the orientation course.
