The coalition of youth groups in Ebonyi has donated N40m for the nomination form of Gov. Francis Nwifuru towards a possible bid for a second term in office.
The youths who marched through streets of Abakaliki in solidarity with the governor, finally converged on the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat where they made the donation.
The leader of the group, Mr Chinedu Emerike.described the gesture as a “token” to support the governor’s possible bid for a second term in office.
Emerike who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (SSA) on Youth Mobilisation, said that youths of the state were eternally grateful to the governor for integrating them into the state’s governance.
“We don’t have much but this gesture sumbolises our collective effort to appreciate and support a leader who has shown us much love and integration.
“We are resolute and united in ensuring that the good works of the governor continues in the people’s benefit beyond 2027.
“The governor’s inclusive style of governance, peace initiatives and infrastructural strides marks him as leader with a difference and the people’s ultimate choice.”
The state APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro–Emegha commended the youths for the gesture, noting that it didn’t come to him as a surprise.
“I have long expected this from you but not in this way.
“You have thrown a sort of challenge to the party and we would engage you to know who loves the governor more.”
Okoro–Emegha noted that the party would however stand as a father to all and leave its door open for whoever wants to contest.
“The governor has not consulted or told us he wants to contest the election.
“He has however given us 18 buses for easy movement during the campains and we don’t know whether to take it as consultation.
“We are waiting for others though even some opposition members have indicated willingness to endorse the governor for a second term in office.”
Representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state, affirmed readiness to ensure a smooth sail for the governor if he re-contests for a second term.
