Ebonyi Govt. Gives Petty Market Women Financial Support

Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state has described women as key drivers of nation-building, sustainable development and peace builders.

Although he did not disclose the amount involved, Gov. Nwifuru made the remarks recently at the grand finale of the 2026 edition of Ebonyi Women’s August meeting, whose theme was “the power of resilient women in nation building”.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Mrs Patricia Obila, celebrated with the women on the occasion and emphasised that Ebonyi women are contributors to inclusive economic growth and drivers of governance .

He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to policies and programmes that empower women, promote gender equity and create opportunities for the state.

“This year’s August meeting will inspire great collaboration, deeper understanding and renewed strength to drive sustainable development across the state,” Nwifuru stated.

Mrs Uzoamaka Nwifuru, Wife of the governor, urged the women to put into action, more commitment to develop, build peace , family values and be champions of social progress.

She thanked the administration for recogniting the important contributions of women to the development of the state.

She urged the 52 empowered market women to utilise the financial support given to them

The Minister for Works, Sen. David Umahi, represented by Augustine Umahi, Chairman, Governing Board of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), commended the state government for accommodating more women in the administration and urged the women to show continued solidarity and support to the state government.

Speaking, Mrs Grace Umezruike , Secretary to the State Government , lauded women’s exceptional resourcefulness and indispensable roles.

Mrs Felicia Nwakpuma, the state Commissioner for women affairs and social development, said the pet project of the wife of the governor remains committed to advancing the welfare, empowerment and development of women with vulnerable groups across the state.

The state Commissioner for Special Project, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu and her counterpart on Budget and Planning, Mrs Chinwe Okah and President, Ebonyi Market, Mrs Patience Nwali, all described women as home-builders and thanked the governor for the appointment of women into sensitive positions in his administration and pledged total support from women in the 2027 general elections.

Mrs Victoria Ogodo, on behalf of other beneficiary of the financial assistance, thanked the governor and his wife for the gesture.

The event featured medical outreach, teachings and other activities to educate the women.
