The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi State has confirmed three deaths in a fatal auto crash along the Enugu-Abakaliki federal road on June 23, with two vehicles plunging into a river.

According to the Sector Commander of the Corps, Daniel Asanya, the accident happened along the Ezillo-Nkalagu axis of the road.

He said wrongful overtaking and excessive speeding caused the crash.

Asanya said the accident involved three privately owned vehicles and seven persons.

Three people died, while two others sustained injuries. The victims included two males and one female.

The FRSC commander explained that the affected vehicles showed impatience and violated road regulations.

He said that the road section remains a one-lane route because the dualisation work has not reached the area.

Asanya, however, warned that drivers who ignore road rules on such routes risk head-on collisions and other fatal outcomes.

He also dismissed claims that the vehicles fell into the river from a non-barricaded bridge, saying they were far from the bridge.

The FRSC urged motorists, especially drivers, to obey traffic regulations and drive carefully to prevent avoidable deaths.

Asanya noted that only living people can attend to important schedules.
