The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned Nigerians to ignore fake auction offers from fraudsters posing as top agency officials and promising cheap forfeited vehicles.
The NDLEA said criminal groups now use the names of senior officials, especially the Agency’s Secretary, Barrister Shadrach Haruna, to send fake letters and messages offering forfeited vehicles at low prices.
The agency said the offers are completely fake. It described the scheme as a deliberate attempt to steal money from unsuspecting members of the public.
The NDLEA stressed that no official has the power to privately sell, allocate, or offer forfeited vehicles or any other seized assets to individuals.
The agency said it sells forfeited vehicles and other assets only through public auctions handled by government-approved auctioneers.
The NDLEA said it always announces genuine auction exercises in national newspapers and on its official communication channels.
The agency urged Nigerians to ignore and report any private letters, text messages, or social media posts claiming to come from Barrister Shadrach Haruna or any other NDLEA official.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its operations. It advised members of the public not to fall for the scam.
The agency asked anyone who receives such fraudulent offers to report them immediately to the nearest NDLEA command or through its official communication channels.
