Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abubakar Audi, says the Corps will cooperate with the Ebonyi government in curbing llegal mining and other crimes in the state.

He noted that the NSCDC has shut a large number of illegal mining sites across the country and arrested several suspects, including foreign nationals.

Audi disclosed this on Sunday in Abakaliki at the inauguration ceremony of a christian religious chapel, constructed by the State Commandant of the corps in Ebonyi, Francis Nnadi.

Inaugurating the chapel, Gov. Francis Nwifuru said “whoever builds a house for God will not lack houses in his home.”

He commended Nnadi for building the chapel and expressed happiness that the project was named after him (the governor).

He urged the NSCDC to beef up its workforce in the state to check illegal mining and other crimes.

“The number of your personnel in Ebonyi is grossly inadequate and this shortfall has made the military take up responsibilities outside its primary mandate,” the governor said.

Commenting on the religious harmony within its workforce, the NSCDC Chief said prayers are among the factors that have stabilised the corps.

The commandant said that prayers have aided the unity among Christians and Muslims in the corps, ensuring efficiency and proactiveness in its operations.

“This has kept us together and such is evident in our operations.”
