
Nsukka, Nigeria – Some residents of Nsukka have applauded a socio-cultural and a non-partisan organisation, known as Nkpokote Nsukka Development Forum (NNDF), for speaking for the zone and having the interest of the zone at heart.
Residents made their views known in Nsukka on Monday while reacting to the forum’s recent Press Conference.
One resident, Mr Desmond Idu, commended NNDF for presenting happenings in the cultural zone such as armed herdsmen’s attacks in Nimbo, Opanda and Igga in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (LGA), Eha-Amufu, and Neke in Isi-Uzo LGA
“The forum did not end there but expressed readiness to partner with the Enugu State Government to develop the zone.
“I am happy that Nsukka cultural zone now has a mouth piece that speaks for the zone,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs Cynthia Eze, noted that from that press conference, the seven local government areas in the zone can now speak with one voice.
“The forum commended Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State for setting up the Security Command and Control Centre in Enugu metropolis and urged him to establish a similar monitoring centre in Nsukka cultural zone to fight insecurity,” she said.
She also commended the forum for recognizing Enugu State government’s numerous infrastructural achievements under Gov Mbah which is an indication that NNDF is objective and honest in its viewpoints.
“The forum applauded Mbah for the dualization of the Opi-Ugwogo-Nike road, the establishment of Green Smart Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare centres, among other commendable projects,” Eze noted.
Mr Victor Ozioko, a former councilor, said Nsukka cultural zone will now be more united and record more progress now that the zone has people of integrity and good track records coming from seven local government areas that make up the zone to establish NNDF.
Ozioko urged people from the zone to give maximum support and cooperation to the forum to enable the forum to do more for the zone.
“I am happy that members of the forum are made up of who is who in Nsukka, Igboeze-south. Igboeze-north, Udenu, Igboetiti, Uzowani and Isi-uzo, local government areas that made up the cultural zone,” he said.
Chief Basil Nweze said the content of NNDF recent press conference has shown that at last the zone has gotten a mouth piece as well as a forum that can effectively partner with government to attract more development in the zone.
“For every long time the Nsukka cultural zone has been look for a group like NNDF that have its membership from the seven LGs that made the zone , ready to speak for the zone as well as partner with both state and federal governments to attract development in the zone.
“I urge people from the zone to always give maximum support to the forum to encourage the group to do more since members of the forum are investing their time, energy and resources to move the zone forward.”
When contacted, Chief Chineme Enyiduru, the Publicity Secretary of Nkpokote Nsukka Development Forum, said that the forum was established to ensure the zone is united and speaks with one voice
“The forum pledges its unwavering support to government’s efforts to develop the cultural zone as well as remaining a ready partner in building a peaceful, secure, and thriving Enugu State,” Enyiduru added.
