US, Nigeria mourn Iranian President death in helicopter crash

Lagos, May 20, 2024 – The United States has expressed its official condolences for the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran. 

This is contained in a press release by Matthew Miller, US Department Spokesperson on Monday.

“As Iran selects a new president, we reaffirm our support for the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

Also, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu joined the rest of the world to mourn the Iranian President death and others.

They were confirmed dead by local media platforms on Monday, May 20.

Reacting to the development, Tinubu in a statement issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, extended his condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

President Tinubu expressed profound grief over the disturbing tragedy and described President Raisi as a leader who was passionately committed to the development of Iran.

While commiserating with the bereaved families, President Tinubu prayed for the continuous peace, stability, and prosperity of the Iranian nation.
