Ntokon Edo, the Akwa Ibom Coordinator, National Association of Uniform Voluntary Organisations (NAUVO), says the maiden edition of its football tournament scheduled for Uyo in June will promote collaboration, unity, and fitness among members.

Edo, who made this known on Friday, said that no fewer than 21 teams across voluntary organisations operating in the state, would participate in the tournament.

Edo said at the pre-tournament briefing in Uyo that the competition, tagged “Ibom Uniform Security Tournament,” would kick off from June 13 to June 27 at the Uyo township stadium.

According to him, the maiden football tournament is for members between the ages of 18 and 28.

He added that apart from football, the tournament would showcase drills and band competition.

“Today, we are united by more than the uniforms we wear. We are united by service, discipline, and a shared duty to Akwa Ibom State.

“The aim and objective of this tournament is clear – to promote unity, discipline, and healthy competition among uniform security organisations in Akwa Ibom.

“It will foster unity and synergy amongst all uniformed voluntary and security bodies in our State. When we know each other on the field, we work better together in our communities.

“It aims to promote physical fitness and operational readiness, because a fit officer is a ready officer for duties, crowd control, and protection of public assets,” Edo said.

He assured participants that there would be a cash prize award given to first-place, second-place, and third-place winners.
