The 36-year-old son of General Sani Abacha, Nigeria’s former Military President has died in his sleep.

The deceased, Abdullahi Abacha was the second to the last son of the late military ruler,

This was contained via a tweet on Saturday by his sister, Gumsu Sani Abacha, saying that Abdullahi died in the early hours of the day.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. I lost my younger brother Abdullahi Sani Abacha,” she wrote.

Gumi said her younger brother died at the family’s Nelson Mandela Street residence in Abuja.

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him jannatul firdous, Ameen. Please include him in your prayers,” she added.

Similarly, the deceased brother, Mahmud Abacha, the fourth son of the late Nigerian leader, also confirmed the death.

According to the Politics Nigeria, he wrote: “I just lost my brother, Abdullahi. May his soul rest in Jannatil Firdaus.”

The funeral prayer would hold by 4 pm at the National Mosque, Abuja, on Saturday, 4 March.

Born in 1987, the deceased was one of nine children left behind by the late military leader.

Captain Jamil Abubakar, a friend of the deceased, wrote on Twitter: “Innalillahi wainnailaihirraju’un. We just lost one of our course mate and friend, Abdullahi Sani Abacha. He was NMS97, our set; he was in Delta company. Condolences to his family, friends and coursemates.”

A netizen Sadiq Abdulmumin condoled with the family over the loss.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun! My heartiest sympathy goes to the family of Abacha. May the Almighty Allah give you the fortitude to bear this great loss. May Allah s.w.t. grant ABDULLAHI SANI ABACHA Jannatul-Firdaus and forgive his sins. Amin ya Hayyu ya Qayyum,” he wrote.
