Amstel Malta kicked off day two of the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) with purpose and passion, headlining the Young Filmmakers’ Day—an impactful investment in the next generation of African storytellers.

Held on May 8th in partnership with the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), this year’s edition spotlighted one of cinema’s most powerful yet often overlooked tools: sound in filmmaking.

From immersive workshops to hands-on masterclasses, the day was a celebration of creativity and craft. Powered by Amstel Malta, every moment reinforced the brand’s longstanding commitment to nurturing emerging talent and shaping the future of African cinema.

At the heart of the event was the Amstel Malta Monologue Challenge—an open call that invited aspiring actors and writers to create and perform original monologues.

Finalists delivered their performances before a curated audience of industry insiders, competing for a grand prize of ₦250,000. More than a contest, the challenge embodied Amstel Malta’s ethos: rewarding ambition, storytelling, and artistic excellence.

Guests were also treated to an engaging video spotlighting alumni from a previous MTF cohort, a trivia session focused on iconic film sound moments, and a standout workshop led by internationally renowned sound expert, Shawn Butler.

Each session unpacked the often invisible power of sound—demonstrating how intentional audio design can heighten storytelling and stir emotion in cinema.

Beyond the workshops, Amstel Malta curated a premium experience that reflected its brand identity: unlimited refreshments, thoughtful ambience, and an atmosphere designed to foster collaboration and connection among young creatives.

For three decades, Amstel Malta has stood as a quiet yet consistent force in the Nigerian creative industry. From the legacy of Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO) to its headline role at the AMVCAs, and now its investment in the Multichoice Talent Factory initiative across 13 African countries, the brand has stayed true to its promise: to empower, elevate, and keep growth within reach.

Our work with Multichoice Talent Factory and platforms like the AMVCA is beyond sponsorship,” said Francis Obiajulu, Senior Brand Manager, Amstel Malta & Hi-Malt, Nigerian Breweries Plc.

“It is about belief. Belief in the next generation. Belief in African excellence. And belief in what happens when we create the right conditions for talent to thrive.”

As AMVCA week unfolds, Amstel Malta continues to reaffirm its role—not just as a sponsor, but as a brand deeply invested in growth, creativity, and the future of African storytelling.
