The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed May 15 and 16, 2026, for its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
APC releases timetable for primaries
The APC released the timetable on its official X handle. The party also issued a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. The schedule outlines key steps, including sale of forms, screening, appeals, and primaries for all elective positions.
Meanwhile, the party will sell expression of interest and nomination forms from April 25 to May 2. Aspirants must submit completed forms by May 4. The party will screen aspirants from May 6 to May 8 and publish results on May 11.
However, aspirants who feel dissatisfied can file appeals from May 12 to May 13.
APC sets fees, fixes dates for other primaries
The APC fixed the presidential forms at ₦100 million. This covers ₦30 million for expression of interest and ₦70 million for nomination. Governorship aspirants will pay ₦50 million, while fees for Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly positions vary.
Furthermore, the party said female aspirants, youths, and persons with disabilities will pay only for expression of interest and 50 per cent of the nomination fee for each position.
Meanwhile, the party will hold House of Representatives primaries on May 18. It will conduct Senate primaries on May 20, State Houses of Assembly on May 21, and governorship primaries on May 23.
APC cites laws, pledges credible process
In response, the APC said it drew the timetable in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Consequently, the party reaffirmed its commitment to credible and transparent primaries to strengthen internal democracy.
However, no APC member has formally declared interest in the presidential race as of press time. Meanwhile, some party leaders and key groups have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election.
Although President Bola Tinubu has not made a formal declaration, he last week dismissed claims that he fears the opposition ahead of the elections.
