LAWMA has launched a special operation to clear accumulated waste around Megida and other parts of the Ayobo-Ipaja axis in Lagos, while stepping up enforcement against illegal dumping.
LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the Authority deployed its operational team to clear waste from affected road medians. Enforcement officers also moved in to tackle activities linked to repeated dumping.
It said that routine monitoring showed that illegal trading, including markets on road medians, had fuelled the problem. Residents who failed to use their assigned PSP operators also contributed to the recurring waste buildup.
“We are working here right now to clear the accumulated waste and restore the affected areas to acceptable environmental standards,” Gbadegesin said, adding that LAWMA must also stop redumping and ensure residents use approved waste collection channels.
Gbadegesin disclosed that LAWMA apprehended two tricycles, also known as Keke Marwa, for allegedly moving waste from the community to road medians.

He said the Authority would not allow unauthorised waste collectors to weaken the formal waste management system.
He urged residents, traders and businesses in Ayobo-Ipaja to use their assigned PSP operators, saying that
the waste evacuation would continue alongside enforcement, better collection arrangements and regular monitoring.
He also urged residents to cooperate with LAWMA’s operational and enforcement teams. However, he warned against attempts to obstruct or frustrate the Authority’s lawful duties.
“We will not tolerate any interference with our efforts to clean the city and protect the environment,” he said.
Gbadegesin warned that anyone who obstructs, assaults or interferes with LAWMA personnel during lawful duties would face prosecution, regardless of whether the person is a resident, trader, operator, government official or another individual.
He reaffirmed that LAWMA would work within the law and with relevant stakeholders to restore environmental order across Lagos.
