Some civil society organisations have intensified mobilisation of youths in Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) to strengthen participation in Nigeria’s electoral process through the registration and collection of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
They said this during a Civic Literacy TownHall Workshop and Advocacy on Thursday at the Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos.
Speaking to newsmen at the event, the Founder Springwell Development Initiative, Mrs Feyikemi Fabiyi-Omoniyi, said the civic literacy outreach emphasised voter registration, PVC collection, and informed participation in elections.
She stressed that registration alone was insufficient, urging youths to collect their PVCs and turn out to vote for credible leaders.
Fabiyi-Omoniyi said the programme recorded a strong turnout following strategic engagement with community stakeholders across Alimosho.
She described the exercise as impactful and reiterated commitment to sustained voter education and inclusive civic engagement.
Also speaking, the Lagos Focal Person for Yiaga Africa, Mr Michael Ogunsola, said the initiative was driven by the need to deepen citizen participation in governance.
Ogunsola urged youths to see voting as a civic duty and responsibility, and to participate actively in shaping leadership outcomes.
He noted that greater youth involvement would promote accountability, inclusiveness, and strengthen democratic institutions.
Also, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Alimosho LGA, Mr Abayomi Olusegun, urged the youth to ensure they register for the PVC, collect it and discharge their civic duties during elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that earlier in the day, about 120 youths joined in an advocacy walk to sensitise Alimosho residents on the importance of registring and collecting their PVCs.
It will be recalled that the CSOs had taken the PVC advocacy to Ikeja and Ojo LGAs of Lagos State.
The event was put forward by the Springwell Development Initiative in collboration with Yiaga Africa with the support of National Endowment for Democracy.
