Six perish in Ebonyi auto crash – FRSC

Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday, said that six persons died in a fatal auto crash, caused by a dangerous overtaking on Friday.

The Ebonyi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Anthony Ogbodo, said that the accident occured close to the Nkalagu flyover along the Enugu/Abakaliki federal highway.

Ogbodo said that 22 persons (12 males and 10 females) were involved in the accident which involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Mercedes Benz Tipper.

“Six persons were killed (three males and three females) while 14 others (nine males and five females) were injured in the accident.

“Only two males were not injured while the injured passengers were taken to hospital by our personnel.

“The hospitals are the Annunciation health facility and the National Orthopaedic hospital, both in Enugu.

“The other victims were taken to the general hospital, Ezzamgbo, Ebonyi, by the Red Cross team.”

He noted that obstruction on the highway, caused by the accident, had been cleared by FRSC personnel who recovered two cell phones, the key of the tipper and N2,000 cash at the scene of the crash.

“We continue appealing to motorists to always observe traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives on the roads,” Ogbodo added.
